Description

Background
At the interface between research and decision-making, the Institute for Sustainable
Development and International Relations (IDDRI) is an independent, policy research institute
based at Sciences Po (Institute for Political Studies) in Paris. Its activity focuses on
sustainable development issues that require international coordination, especially biodiversity
and climate change (for more information on the programme, see www.iddri.org).
IDDRI has three objectives: informing policy decisions; identifying emerging issues; and
providing a platform for dialogue between various stakeholders, including research institutes,
public agencies, private sectors and NGOs.
Based in Paris, IDDRI currently has about 40 staff including an interdisciplinary team of 20
social scientists (economists, political scientists, lawyers, etc.).
Position advertised
In order to strengthen its Climate Programme, IDDRI is seeking an outstanding candidate for
the position of Senior Research Fellow on the Energy and Climate Public Policies.
Under the supervision of the Climate Programme Director, and depending on his/her
background, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
 Developing IDDRI’s on-going research activities on energy and climate public
policies, especially on the methodologies and tools that are used to design,
implement, and assess the performance of energy and climate public policies. These
research activities will involve the crossing of theoretical and practical perspectives;
and comparing country experiences and practices.
 Building and facilitating an international network of people in charge of designing,
implementing, and assessing the performance of energy and climate policies within
their own country, with the view of comparing domestic experiences and practices
and promoting best practices within the international climate change negotiation
framework.
 Coordinating with IDDRI’s relevant partners and facilitating collaboration.
Requirements
The successful candidate must:
 Hold a PhD in public policies or economics, specializing in energy and climate
 Have at least five years of experience, preferably both in the field and at the international
level;
 Have participated directly or indirectly in the design, implementation or assessment of
energy and climate public policies or plans;
 Have knowledge and understanding of economic tools, macro and/or micro;
 Have excellent written and verbal communication skills;
 Be fluent in English. Fluency in French and/or other UN languages would be an asset;
 Have the willingness to travel both nationally and internationally, sometimes extensively;
 Have the capacity to work independently as well as in team, in an international,
multicultural environment.
Location and type of contract
The position is based at IDDRI in the heart of Paris (Saint Germain des Prés area).
A one-year contract will be offered initially, with possibility of extension.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, according to IDDRI’s rules
and regulations.
