The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an independent international research institute engaged in environment and development issues at local, national, regional and global policy levels. The SEI in Oxford, one of 7 SEI centres globally, has specific expertise in vulnerability assessment, adaptive management and risk governance within the field of climate change adaptation. SEI Oxford has built a reputation for working at the interface between the natural and social sciences, conducting research and developing participatory tools and methods to directly support the planning and operational work of partner organisations with an increasing emphasis on the co-creation of knowledge, notably through the weADAPT (www.weADAPT.org) collaboration.
The Stockholm Environment Institute in Oxford is looking for a dynamic Research Fellow to join our team from June 2012 to work on two projects. This person will have expertise in climate change adaptation and an understanding of mitigation (like REDD+). The position would specially require analyses of the synergies and conflicts between climate change adaptation and mitigation in the context of developing countries.
The main requirements are that the candidate will have a MSc in the fields of environmental management, environmental economics, environmental decision making; climate change and development interface with both the scientific and policy communities have at least two years experience in development practice/research have a good understanding of climate change adaptation issues have knowledge of participatory approaches to decision-making have experience in project management experience of writing proposals and securing project funding speak very good French, this is essential be a dynamic networker who is keen and flexible to travel be an enthusiastic team player
Desirable skills Knowledge of statistical software, social network analysis software, GIS, spreadsheet/database applications and excellent writing and communication skills.
Salary range will be (Grade 6 equivalent): £26004 to £31020.
Duty station: Oxford, UK. This is a 2-year position.
