Research Associate (Spatial Data Analyst)

£19,740 - £23,390 per annum

3 year research training opportunity

Based in Penicuik, near Edinburgh

The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is theUK’s Centre of Excellence for research in the terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere.  Working in partnership with the research community, policy makers, industry and society, CEH undertakes cutting edge research to deliver world class solutions to the most complex environmental challenges facing humankind.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed scientist to work and train as a Spatial Data Analyst.  Candidates will be enthusiastic and self-motivated with good organisational and interpersonal skills; you will have a scientific background e.g. in environmental science, geography or agriculture and should hold a relevant degree (BSc or equivalent). Key requirements are a high degree of numeracy and computer literacy, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to problem solving. Previous experience of working with scientific datasets and working effectively both within a team and independently are desirable. Some experience withGIS, data manipulation tools, computer programming or databases would also be an advantage.

This post is an opportunity within the NERC Research Associates' Programme - an initiative which offers individuals the opportunity to gain practical experience of working within a Research Institute, whilst acquiring specialist and wider skills that will be valuable in a range of careers. It is aimed particularly at those who have recently completed postgraduate studies, but is open to individuals from other backgrounds and of all ages.
