Description

We are seeking a Research Associate (Postdoc) in the field of Climate Change Policy Analysis to join our policy team. The successful candidate’s main contributions relate to the highly interdisciplinary MAGIC project analysing the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in the EU, which is conducted in collaboration with several research partners across Europe. The project’s focus lies on analysing the implications and interlinkages of EU policies related to the Nexus, both through EU-wide analyses as well as case studies.

The position’s focus lies on analysing questions related to the relationship of emission pathways and mitigation policy at the EU level in the context of achieving Nexus security across the EU. It requires a strong interest in interdisciplinary work and willingness to take-up and further develop quantitative research methods spanning several disciplines. The position is based in Berlin, Germany, and will require close collaboration with our partners and travel to project meetings across Europe. The position offers opportunities for contributions to several international projects conducted at Climate Analytics and provides the candidate with room to further develop their own research interests in line with the  general strategic interest of Climate Analytics. The initial appointment is a part-time position at 60% of regular working hours (24h/week), with the option of  an increase in work time according to the candidate’s expertise and availability of additional funding.

Key responsibilities

  • Independent  development  and  conduction  of  research  on  emission  pathways  and mitigation options in--line with project requirements and deliverables, including scientific publications.
  • Coordination of research and output with the project partners across Europe.
  • Liaising with the CA Science team to link the policy and mitigation analysis with outputs from climate modelling and impact assessments.
  • Attendance of and contributions to project meetings.
  • Preparation of project documentations and reports, according to requirements.
  • Contributions to other projects conducted at Climate Analytics according to the needs and the candidate’s expertise.
  • Contributions to applications for additional third-party funding through the development of proposals.

Your profile

  • Minimum three years of research experience in climate policy, preferably with a focus on the EU, including a scientific publication record.
  • A PhD in political science, human geography or a related field.
  • Experience  with interdisciplinary  work and a profound interest in understanding major challenges of climate change and its sectoral interlinkages.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel.
  • Basic programming skills in R, Python and/or Matlab are an asset but not required.
  • Experience in project management and coordination are an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel regionally is required.
  • Excellent English writing and oral skills are a requirement; basic German skills are welcome, but not required.
