The Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) is part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) and is the UK's Centre of Excellence for integrated research in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems and their interaction with the atmosphere. Working in partnership with the research community, policy makers, industry and society, CEH undertakes cutting edge research to deliver world class solutions to the most complex environmental challenges facing humankind. CEH has an annual turnover of £35 million, and employs staff across four sites; the headquarters is at Wallingford with further sites at Bangor, Edinburgh and Lancaster. We offer a prestigious Research Associate training programme to develop skilled UK/EU scientists for the future of European environmental research. Within this training programme this 3 year post will integrate a developing molecular biologist within CEH’s ecotoxicology. This group is working on environmental stress ecology projects being conducted within the Pollution and Ecological Risk Research Theme of CEH. This post will undertake studies of gene regulation and expression using targeted and genome wide epigenetic and transcriptomic approaches, placing these assessments within a system biology context in support of chemical mode of action assessment and biomarker identification. You will hold a PhD and preferably some post-doc experience in molecular biology and/or aspects of bioinformatics preferably in non-model species. Experience in the generation and analysis of next generation sequencing data-sets will be a distinct advantage. Some experience in the handling of highly dimensional data-sets using univariate and multi-variate statistical techniques. You will possess excellent communication and problem solving skills and a track record of communicating research through presentations and written outputs. Salary £28,200 per annum Eligibility to apply To work for CEH, you must be eligible to live and work in the UK without the requirement for a work permit. CEH can only apply for a work permit in cases where there are no suitably qualified or experienced resident workers; otherwise applicants should normally be resident in the UK or a national of the European Union.
