WRI has a unique portfolio of environmental projects in China. In the following five years, WRI China will focus more on designing an integrated approach to tackling urbanization and industrialization.  This is a cross cutting initiative and will require an economics leader to focus on key macro economics issues of urban development.  WRI China Office was established in 2008 as the first country office of the World Resources Institute (WRI), aiming to help China seek an environmentally smart pathway for its urbanization and industrialization.  This initiative is to promote sustainable and livable cities in China, India, and Brazil. 

 

WRI China Office is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to support research and project management on Greenhouse Gas Protocol and industrial energy efficiency in China. The position will provide analytical, research, writing, communication, and administrative support to Sustainable and Livable Initiatives Program Energy Team.

Responsibilities:

The Research Assistant will report to the Energy Pillar Lead and provide research and administrative assistance to Energy Pillar Lead and the energy team of WRI Sustainable and Livable Cities Initiative Program including:

  • Assist with research on industrial energy-water efficiency improvements technical guidelines and policy recommendations
  • Assist with research on industrial energy-water efficiency financing
  • Assist Energy Pillar Lead and Energy Team with GHG Protocol capacity building
  • Coordinate meetings and facilitate various stakeholder events and interaction; proofread, edit, and translate working documents; and manage relevant contracts, travels, and research activities
  • Assist with project reporting, grant proposals, communication materials, and other project management activities
  • Recruit interns for the Sustainable and Livable Initiatives Program Energy Team in the China office, manage intern contracts and facilitate work allocations among interns
  • Support other program activities of the WRI China office as required  
Qualifications:
  • At least two years or more experience in relevant field
  • Masters in economics, engineering, environmental science, public policy, public administration, or a related field
  • Solid research and writing ability, preferably publication experience
  • Excellent computer and quantitative analytical skills
  • Attention to details and strong organizational skills
  • Proven skills in project execution, stakeholder engagement, and analytical research
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking, report writing, and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Mandarin
  • Willingness and ability to travel, internationally and within China

Highly preferred

  • Experience in the industry sector and working with ESCOs and industry companies
  • Knowledge of international and Chinese industrial energy-water efficiency and climate policies
  • Knowledge of GHG emissions accounting and measurement protocols
  • Experience on programming and strong Excel skills
  • International experience, including working or studying aboard, or with multinational corporations and international NGOs

Position reports to:  Energy Pillar Lead

 

Compensation: Competitive compensation will be offered commensurate with qualifications and experiences.
