Research assistant, Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3)

ADAPTATION MEASURES WITH CO-BENEFITS IN ECOSYSTEMS AND HUMAN HEALTH IN THE SPANISH CONTEXT


The Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3) offers a position for a research assistant in the context of a project financed by the Fundación Biodiversidad ECOHEALTHAnalysing co-benefits among ECOsystems and HEALTH to cope with climate change risks. The researcher assistant will contribute to the identification and evaluation of measures which can bring multiple co-benefits in health and ecosystem protection, in a context of changing climate. Specific attention will be given to best practices and interventions which can improve human health and wellbeing through the link with a sustainable use of ecosystems and natural resources. The analysis will contribute to the PNACC (Plan Nacional de Adaptación al Cambio Climático) and will be carried out in a case study area which will be selected together with the Climate Change Office, among the following: urban contexts, coastal areas, rivers and lakes, mountainous areas (with parks, forests, etc).

Specifically the Research Assistant will: 
Identify and evaluate the health benefits associated with the exposure to healthy environments and green areas, through a literature review and the construction of a database summarizing qualitative and quantitative impacts.
Identify and evaluate adaptation measures and good practices, applicable to the selected study area, providing co-benefits in health and protection of the ecosystems.
Assist in the general methodological framework for assessing costs and benefits of adaptation in the selected study area.
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders in the Spanish context and participate to workshops and meetings.
Contribute to the publication of high-impact, peer-reviewed research in international scientific journals.

Experience/skills required: 
The applicant must have a degree in environmental economics/sciences or a related field as well as some background in economic valuation, and possibly in topics related to the environment and human health. 
The applicant must have excellent interpersonal as well communication skills (written and oral) in both English and Spanish.

Location: Basque Centre for Climate Change (BC3), Bilbao, Spain. 

Tenure: The position will be for a period of 12 months.
