The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's largest animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Research Assistant for the Humane Society International Wildlife department.  The main responsibilities of this position will be to provide research, website drafting, and other support to the international wildlife department on international wildlife and policy issues; and to act as a liaison between the department and other departments, professional associations, the public and consultants on our international wildlife efforts as appropriate.  Other duties include, but are not limited to: assist the department with legislative, scientific, policy and other research and analysis as necessary to formulate and support arguments for maintaining and increasing international wildlife protection through international treaties and agreements and other means, and to improve enforcement and compliance within these agreements; assist the department with international wildlife protection efforts and strategies including helping to develop and conduct campaigns, drafting website stories and alerts, creating reports and presentations, searching databases, drafting fact sheets and letters, and assisting with outreach efforts to the public, policymakers, and organizations; coordinate input for departmental reports, consultant efforts, joint projects with other organizations, memberships with professional organizations and intergovernmental agencies, and projects in conjunction with other departments; and provide administrative support and carry out other related duties as assigned.  A Bachelor's Degree in biology or a related field is desired.  Experience with Internet and database searching, strong computer skills (MS Office), and analytic, organization, teamwork and project management skills preferred.  Good research, writing and interpersonal skills, and a familiarity with animal protection issues desired.  The salary range for this position is from the low to mid $30's.  Please send cover letters and resumes to hrjobs@hsus.org or fax to (301) 548-7701.  This position is located in Gaithersburg, MD.
