A Research Assistant is required at Rothamsted Research at North Wyke to provide support to Defra-funded research on greenhouse gas and ammonia emissions from agricultural sources. This work has a high profile within the Institute, with an immediate relevance to Defra policy development. The successful applicants will work as part of a team, supporting field-based experimental work. Specific duties will include assisting with:
Preparation and maintenance of experimental field sites
Field measurement of greenhouse gas and ammonia losses from applications of manure, dung and urine to soils
Soil and herbage sampling and preparation of samples for analysis
Downloading data from automated weather stations
Providing technical support for other projects as required
Applicants require a minimum of 3 A levels and a full driving licence. Previous experience of field work in the area of environmental science is desirable and the ability to work outdoors at all times of year is essential. The work will require occasional periods of working outside of normal working hours.
The post is for a fixed term of 6 months and is available full time within Band B with a starting salary normally within the range of £16,722 to £19,410 per annum.
