Description

The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is a premier national autonomous Institute of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoE&F), Government of India in the field of teaching, training and research. The WII wishes to engage sixteen (16) Research Personnel (1-Research Associate, 13-Junior Research Fellows & 2-Technical Assistants) for its various research projects/cells through a Walk-in-Interview on 26th & 27th June 2008. The details of the available positions along with their essential and desirable qualifications, terms and conditions and how to apply are given below.

Research and conservation of endangered and threatened fauna of Kutch: An integrated approach.

Duration: Up to December 2009.

Essential Qualification
 M.Sc. in Forestry/Ecology/Wildlife Science, from a recognized University with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks.
 
Desirable Qualification
 Experience in Field based research or conservation project. Demonstrate field work using research techniques involving radio telemetry/camera trapping/behavior study/survey of endangered species/community work.
 
Brief description of the project
 Telemetry monitoring of Indian fox, hyaenas, wolves and survey and monitoring of vulture populations, Great Indian bustard, lesser florican and community conservation programmes.
 



 
Applications

Candidate for the position of RAs should be below 40 years of age as on 20th June 2008. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST. For the position of JRFs/TAs, the age shall not be more than 28 years as on 20th June 2008. Upper age limit may be relaxed up to 5 years, as in case of candidates (SRF/JRF/TA) belonging to SC/ST/OBC/Women and physically handicapped categories.

Selected candidates for the position of Research Associate (RA) will be paid consolidated emoluments as per the norms of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India depending upon professional qualifications and experience in any one of the following categories RA-I (Rs.16,000/month), RA-II (Rs.17,000/month); RA-III (Rs.18,000/month).

Selected candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) will be paid consolidated emoluments of Rs. 12,000/- per month. For candidates with veterinary background the fellowship amount is Rs. 14,000/- (consolidated) per month for JRFs. The fellowship to TA will be 6,400/- (consolidated) per month.   

All research personnel may be allowed hostel accommodation at the institute, as per availability. Where the hostel accommodation is not possible, house rent allowance (HRA) will be paid as per the rules of the Institute subject to the condition that HRA payable, in no case, shall be more than the rates payable to Central Govt./WII Employee(s) in that area. Other allowances and benefits to the research personnel would be admissible as per the rules of the Institute, amended from time to time.

Engagement on the above positions will be purely on a temporary basis initially and may be extended for further period depending upon the requirement and the tenure of project.

The selection of the candidate will be based on Walk-in-Interview to be held on 26th and 27th June 2008 at the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehra Dun.

Canvassing in any form is liable to rejection of the candidature.

Interviews for the project # 1 to 8 will be conducted on 26th June 2008 and the registrations of candidates will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards on 26th June 2008.

Interviews for the project # 9 to 14 will be conducted on 27th June 2008 and the registrations of candidates will begin by 09:00 A.M. onwards on 27th June 2008.

Candidates should bring the duly filled-in applications with attested true copies of testimonials of educational qualifications, research experience, extra curricular activities, date of birth etc., along with copies of mark sheets of all examinations. All original documents should be produced at the time of registration.

Candidates may apply separately for each advertised position. In any case, the candidate may not be allowed to apply for more than two advertised positions.

Candidates working in other Organizations/Universities should bring their applications forwarded through proper channel. In such cases the candidates will have to produce `No Objection Certificate’ at the time of Interview.

Applications without enclosures and/or incomplete in any respect shall be liable to rejection. 

Two way travel expenses will be paid to the candidates, selected for the project(s). The expense will be limited to actual 2nd class rail/bus fare by the shortest route from his/her place of stay/residence.

Candidates are advised to come prepared to stay at Dehra Dun on 26th or 27th June 2008 and shall make their own arrangements for accommodation. The Institute will not provide accommodation for candidates appearing for the interview.
