Description

Join our dynamic team at Pacific Blue Foundation to assist the development and implementation of the Beqa Lagoon Initiative; focused on natural resource management, sustainable development and socio-ecological health.

Position duration: 12 months. Suitable people will be offered extended positions.

Position type: Full time.

Location: Based in Beqa Island, Fiji.

Remuneration: For Fijian nationals: A local beginner to mid-level salary will be offered congruent on experience, as well as all project related expenses.

Non-Fijian nationals: The position holder is supported with an aim at removing the pressure of expenses. These include: permit/visa, accommodation, food, provisions, travel, communications, and a reimbursement for a return international flight (after 6 months). Further remuneration will be considered after 6 months, congruent with position satisfaction, progress and higher level of responsibility.

Start date: May 15, 2019.  

With guidance and support of the PBF team you will deliver the following:

  • Implement field-based activities: marine, coastal and socio-economic surveys, data entry and analysis;
  • Guiding eco-tourist activities in resorts;
  • Guiding and teaching in communities and schools;
  • Preparing and presenting relevant promotional material, in-person and on-line;
  • Preparing and presenting relevant documents and reports;
  • Logistical, administrative and communications work.

You will have the essential following attributes:

  • Relevant MSc degree and at least 1 year proven applied experience in relevant fields in tropical coastal areas.
  • Fluent written and verbal English and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, presentation preparation and performance.
  • Possess tools for promotional purposes, mainly social media management.
  • Able to operate photography and videography appliances and post-production.
  • Strong swimmer, competent free diver and SCUBA diving certified (at least experienced advanced diver).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Creative, open minded discerning individual, with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Have a good understanding of current international biodiversity conservation and development issues.
  • A passion for the natural environment and helping people, and willing to live in a remote island.

The following attributes are desired of you:

  • Strong experience in socio-ecological research surveys, and data analysis in the tropical Pacific;
  • Proven leadership skills with demonstrated ability to achieve goals;
  • Experience in capacity building, natural resource management and community sustainable development;
  • Competent SCUBA diver with an Instructor certificate, and a competent sea person with a motor boat license;
  • Experience with guiding and leading eco-tourist activities in tropical environments;
  • Possess tools for website management;
  • Knowledge of Fijian/Melanesian tradition and culture.

You would need to have a clean police record and be in a strong medical state (both certificates are required).

You will be living in a staff house, in a close-knit environment, in a small Fijian village in a small remote island.
