The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is a leader in the U.S. Department of Energy’s effort to secure an energy future that is both environmentally and economically sustainable. With locations in Golden, Boulder and Washington D.C., NREL is the primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy technologies in the United States. The NREL mission is to develop renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and practices, advance related science and engineering, and transfer knowledge and innovation to address the nation’s energy and environmental goals.
NREL has an immediate opening for a research analyst to conduct analysis of clean energy technology, market and policy topics. The analyst will gather and analyze data using both off-the-shelf software packages and more tailored products. Roughly one-quarter of the analyst’s time will be spent on jobs analysis related to clean energy deployment. The analyst will manage the production of several widely-read NREL reports and contribute to other projects as part of a larger team.
•Track and consolidate data on clean energy R&D, cost, and deployment trends
•Understand and use a variety of economic models related to employment and renewable energy market activity
•Conduct spreadsheet analysis using large data sets
•Work as part of a team to plan, execute and deliver research reports
•Develop clearly written analyses and interpretations of regulations and policies
Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Working knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field. Skilled in problem solving, written and verbal communication. Ability to use various computer software programs.
•Masters degree in economics, engineering, basic sciences, energy, environmental science, business, or other related field
•2+ years of experience in renewable energy or applied economics, policy and technology
•Excellent written and oral communication skills
•Advanced Excel skills
•Familiarity with at least one of the following types of economic modeling techniques: input-output, econometric, computable general equilibrium.
•Ability to produce exceptional graphics for reports and presentations
•Familiar with current renewable energy policy, market and technology issues
•Familiarity with financial and business model aspects of RE, smart grids, and energy efficiency
•Ability to manage projects, including budgeting, planning, and communications
•Ability to program and use economic or statistical analysis software
•Experience conducting economic analysis of labor markets
•Familiarity with graphical visualization packages such as R that go beyond Excel and PowerPoint
•Ability to juggle multiple tasks and enjoy quick-turnaround analysis
•Experience collaborating with other energy analysts
•Proven track record of impact in energy analysis and project management
This is a temporary position. Subsequent extensions may be available based upon the needs of the Lab. Temporary employees at NREL, with an initial assignment of 12 months or longer, are eligible for the following benefits during employment: Paid Time Off, Extended Sick Leave, Short-term Disability, Medical/Dental Insurance, 403(b) Savings Plan matching and Pension benefits based upon all other eligibility rules. Positions with initial assignments of 12 months or longer may be eligible for relocation benefits.
