The Greenhouse Gas Protocol at the World Resources Institute is looking for a highly motivated person to help in the implementation of the forthcoming Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) and Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standards. The Research Analyst will have primary responsibility for coordinating the development of guidance and tools to support the new standards. He/she will serve as an instructor for trainings on the standards, and provide advice to companies on interpreting the standards as needed. Additional tasks may include assisting with other projects related to corporate greenhouse gas accounting.
The GHG Protocol (www.ghgprotocol.org) is the most widely used international accounting tool for government and business leaders to understand, quantify, and manage greenhouse gas emissions. The GHG Protocol, a decade-long partnership between the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, is working with businesses, governments, academics, and environmental groups around the world to build a new generation of credible and effective programs for tackling climate change.
Responsibilities:
Develop online tools and guidance documents to assist companies in implementing the standards
Develop case studies on:
Life cycle assessment (LCA),
Corporate supply chain accounting and disclosure, and
Product-level carbon footprinting
Assist in the delivering of training curriculum and revising the curriculum based on feedback from participants
Present the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) and Product Standards to technical, policy, and corporate audiences
Provide summaries and analysis on key accounting issues and challenges
Draft white papers on key accounting issues
Facilitate the development of sector guidance and product category rules
Assist in fundraising activities including preparing funding proposals
Assist in organizing workshops
Qualifications:
Preferably 2-3 years of professional work experience related to life cycle assessment and climate change.
Preferably a Masters degree in a relevant field.
Experience in life cycle assessment and/or corporate supply chains
Knowledge and strong interest in greenhouse gas accounting and reporting
Excellent research, writing, analysis, and communications skills
Ability to learn complex greenhouse gas and life cycle accounting concepts quickly
Interest in and knowledge of climate change and energy issues
Ability to self-motivate, stay organized, and work successfully both independently and as part of a team
Enjoys being a team player and working in a collaborative environment
