Description

Rothamsted Research, the UK’s oldest and largest agricultural research centre, is seeking a part time researcher/project manager for a new EU funded project on logistics of supplying perennial biomass crops as part of a programme developing and improving energy crops within the Cropping Carbon Institute Strategic Program.

Duties will involve designing and organising the implementation of a large scale experimental programme to investigate the harvesting, post-harvest management and transport of energy crops in collaboration with the industry. The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of the project work plan including data management, report, scientific paper and technical briefing preparation. Quality Assurance is a vital component of all projects at the Institute and the post holder will be responsible for protocol development with project partners.

The post holder will work alongside colleagues in the energy crops team and will contribute to other projects in the Cropping Carbon Institute Strategic Programme. Within the wider Institute they will need to interact with staff from the Farm, Statistics and the Analytical Unit.

The successful candidate will have a degree in a biologically relevant scientific discipline and extensive experience of working on Field Experiments. In particular experience of working on large scale experiments in collaboration with industrial partners will be essential. The research work will take place on sites within the UK requiring travel and the occasional overnight stay. A full UK driving licence is essential. Project meetings, demonstrations and occasional other visits will require travel within Europe.

The part time (20 hours per week) appointment is funded for 3½ years at Band D with a starting salary normally in the region of £28,110 to £31,667 per annum (pro-rata).
