Description: The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) has an immediate opening for a full-time Regional Wildlife Biologist position in Mississippi. This position will be responsible for all facets of the NWTF's habitat conservation and wildlife management programs on both a National and State level.
Duties:
  • Work cooperatively with the NRCS and other Agency Partners to deliver NWTF's Longleaf Pine Initiative
  • Identify and develop habitat enhancement projects, provide recommendations and plans for improving wildlife / turkey habitat on public and private lands with an emphasis on forest management and early successional habitat needs
  • Develop and implement Stewardship habitat proposals and projects with USFS staff that enhance wildlife habitat via active forest management.
  • Promote habitat and outreach accomplishments via NWTF and Agency public relations media
  • Administer NWTF's Regional habitat programs, and work closely with the MS State Chapter of NWTF to administer the Hunting Heritage Super Fund Program and accomplish the goals/objectives established within the North American Wild Turkey Plan
  • Develop and provide oversight of Agency contracts and agreements
  • Educate landowners through field days and workshops throughout the state
  • Garner funding for conservation work by securing grants and additional agency and non-governmental organization partnerships to further NWTF's mission
Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology, Forestry, or science-related field and demonstrated knowledge of wildlife management and forestry with a minimum of three years of experience, or a Master's degree with at least one year of related experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
  • Experience working with wildlife agencies, private landowners, grant writing/administration, Farm Bill programs, and southeastern ecosystems/management techniques are a plus
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with GPS / Arc GIS along with monitoring budgets/financials is preferable
  • Duty station - a central location within the state is preferable
