Description:
The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) has an immediate opening for a full-time Regional Wildlife Biologist position in Mississippi. This position will be responsible for all facets of the NWTF's habitat conservation and wildlife management programs on both a National and State level.
Duties:
Work cooperatively with the NRCS and other Agency Partners to deliver NWTF's Longleaf Pine Initiative
Identify and develop habitat enhancement projects, provide recommendations and plans for improving wildlife / turkey habitat on public and private lands with an emphasis on forest management and early successional habitat needs
Develop and implement Stewardship habitat proposals and projects with USFS staff that enhance wildlife habitat via active forest management.
Promote habitat and outreach accomplishments via NWTF and Agency public relations media
Administer NWTF's Regional habitat programs, and work closely with the MS State Chapter of NWTF to administer the Hunting Heritage Super Fund Program and accomplish the goals/objectives established within the North American Wild Turkey Plan
Develop and provide oversight of Agency contracts and agreements
Educate landowners through field days and workshops throughout the state
Garner funding for conservation work by securing grants and additional agency and non-governmental organization partnerships to further NWTF's mission
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology, Forestry, or science-related field and demonstrated knowledge of wildlife management and forestry with a minimum of three years of experience, or a Master's degree with at least one year of related experience
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
Experience working with wildlife agencies, private landowners, grant writing/administration, Farm Bill programs, and southeastern ecosystems/management techniques are a plus
Must be proficient with Microsoft applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and experience with GPS / Arc GIS along with monitoring budgets/financials is preferable
Duty station - a central location within the state is preferable
