Description

As the largest crystalline silicon photovoltaic solar module manufacturer in the world, Suntech is a rapidly growing organization. We have an exciting opportunity for a Regional Policy Specialist to join us in our Phoenix, Arizona offices.

The Regional Policy Specialist will be an ambitious self-starter, taking agressive and pro-active  action to help Suntech win energy and climate policies in the US Southwest that reap the clean, cost-effective, and plentiful benefits of solar power.  In addition, the successful candidate will win and defend new state policys that support and expand solar markets, while supporting Suntech America's marketing, sales, finance and other teams.  Reporting to the Director of External Relations, the Regional Policy Specialist will be based in or near Phoenix, Arizona. 

Summary of essential job functions:

  • Responsible for Suntech America’s policy strategy and some public affairs duties across the US Southwest
  • Analyzes and monitors power markets across the region, particularly legislative proposals and regulatory proceedings that impact sales.  Communicates potential policy impacts with senior company officials and helps the company position its strategy to benefit from a competitive market knowledge
  • Advocates, drafts, and files comments and testimony, develops and/or gathers supportive research and analysis, develops outreach materials, etc.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with legislative and regulatory decision-makers; helps Suntech Power executives meet top decision-makers
  • Represents Suntech in industry association meetings and maintains Suntech as a solar policy thought leader
  • Represents Suntech in high-level meetings with government officials, utilities, RTOs/ISOs, stakeholder groups, and other market participants
  • Supports Suntech teams (executive, finance, marketing, sales, etc.)
  • Communicates regular policy updates to Suntech’s policy and sales leads
  • Represents Suntech at US conferences and meetings relating to regional solar policy
  • Responds to public and media questions on Suntech policy positions
  • Performs related duties as required

 

 

 

 

 

Requirements:

  • An accredited university with coursework in political science, business or public administration, economics, electrical engineering, energy and environmental policy, or related subjects
  • Based in or near Phoenix, Arizona
  • Engaging, friendly, reasonable, diplomatic, and persuasive communicator
  • Self-driven, ambitious, and proactive work attitude
  • Able to effectively manage multiple market developments and multiple tasks against tight deadlines, and adjust to frequently shifting internal and external forces
  • Understanding of existing utility regulation, renewable energy policy, and some transmission/distribution policy at the state, regional, and federal level that drive the renewable energy market
  • Basic solar comprehension and strong interest in renewable energy
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills, including cost-benefit modeling
  • Ability to travel 25-50% of full-time position
  • Extensive political contacts a plus
  • Climate protection policy design, energy efficiency, building standards, and/or finance knowledge/experience a plus
  • Knowledge of China and Mandarin Chinese a plus
