Description

Under the auspices of the UNDP/GEF MIGRATORY SOARING BIRDS PROJECT, BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced individual to coordinate this regional project, to ensure the objectives, outputs and activities of the project are achieved on time and to the required standard. The general duties includes but not limited to:

  • Lead the Regional Flyway Facility.
  • Provide overall co-ordination of the technical and administrative aspects of the project.
  • Co-ordinate involvement in the project by the national implementing partners and UNDP-country offices.
  • Manage the RFF Communications, Education and Public Affairs Officer and the two Regional Flyways Officers (for the Middle East and Africa).
  • Liaise with UNDP Jordan, acting as the day-to-day point of contact between BirdLife and UNDP on matters relating to project implementation.
  • Ensure that components of the project are delivered on time and assure quality control.
  • Oversee resource allocation and ensure budgetary control.

The required qualifications and skills are:

  • An advanced university degree (PhD or MSc) in any discipline related to the natural sciences
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience, three of which should be at the international level in project development, strategic planning and management, related to the conservation of biological diversity.
  • Proven knowledge of the environmental sector in the Middle East and/or North and East Africa.
  • Ability to work with a variety of people including government officials, international and national non-governmental organizations, local stakeholders, experts and consultants.
  • Direct line management skills as well as an ability to remotely manage staff and facilitate the input of teams. Experience in facilitating and chairing meetings and/or workshops, ability to manage budgets, and good organizational and planning skills and an ability to adhere to deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
  • Willing and able to travel to project countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

 

Location: The position will be based within the BirdLife International Middle East Division office in Amman, Jordan.

Duration: Two years subject to annual contract-renewal, with appropriate probationary period, and possibility for a 3rdyear extension.

Salary& benefits: A salary range of between $30,000 – $ 50,000 annually inclusive to all benefits,  commensurate with experience and qualifications, and according to BirdLife International/Middle East Division terms and conditions. Country reallocation costs will be provided if required.
