The top of the South Island, Te Tau Ihu o Te Waka a Maui, is a place of great environmental diversity and of immense cultural and economic value. The arrival of an unwanted aquatic pest or disease can seriously impact those values by choking waterways or fouling our coast.

Councils, government agencies, iwi and other stakeholders in the top of the South Island have joined together in a Marine Biosecurity Partnership to enable the integrated management of marine biosecurity. The Partnership has agreed on a strategic plan to prevent the introduction, and minimise the spread, of damaging marine species throughout the top of the South region.

In order for the strategy to be effectively implemented, the Partnership wishes to contract a Regional Coordinator to help to achieve its objectives.

The successful applicant for this position will assist the Partnership in:

  • Coordinating the Partnership
    * Developing and implement advocacy programmes
    * Developing and promoting surveillance programmes
    * Developing standard procedures
    * Engaging with marine users and other stakeholders.

    You will have demonstrated skills in coordination, facilitation, engagement with tangata whenua, problem-solving, planning, written and oral communication, and conflict management.

    You will need to be based in Marlborough, Nelson or Tasman. The duration of the contract will be for a minimum of two years.
    A Request for Tender (RFT) is available from Bob Johnston, bob.johnston@maf.govt.nz or available online at the Government Electronic Tender Service www.gets.govt.nz

    Applicants must be immediately available for interview within New Zealand and they must hold a current New Zealand work permit or be a New Zealand resident.
