Ducks Unlimited seeks an accomplished and motivated biologist to help provide science support for its conservation efforts in the 7-state, Great Plains Region. The position will be stationed in the Great Plains Regional Office in Bismarck, North Dakota. The regional biologist will be responsible for and participate in all phases of the design, analysis, execution, and reporting of research investigations and the development of geospatial conservation planning tools. The regional biologist will maintain excellent working relationships with state and federal personnel, academic researchers and graduate students, private landowners, and other conservation partners.
Specific Duties:
- In collaboration with DU colleagues, identifying and articulating key uncertainties associated with DU conservation programs and policy efforts
- Providing scientific input regarding impacts of conservation programs and policies on waterfowl populations
- Coordinating and communicating science efforts with partner agencies and groups
- Developing grant proposals to fund science efforts
- Publishing and presenting research results in diverse forums including peer-reviewed journals and professional meetings
- Developing geospatial conservation planning tools
- Supervising research and GIS interns
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Wildlife Science, GIS, or a related field required, advanced degree preferred
- 5 years of combined graduate education and experience in wildlife research, conservation planning, or a related field
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Proficiency with ArcGIS and Spatial Analyst
- Proficiency with R, S-plus, or SAS
- Ability to travel frequently and work effectively off-site including fieldwork in adverse conditions
- Ability to safely lift 50 pounds
This position reports to the Director of Conservation Planning for the Great Plains Region.
