Description

Winrock is seeking REDD+ Technical Specialist candidates for upcoming USAID-funded programs related toClimate Change Mitigation in Ecuador and Peru.  The anticipated programs will be designed to strengthen the capacity of Ecuador and Peru to achieve meaningful and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions from the forestry-land use sector, and allow these countries to benefit from the emerging international REDD+ framework. Programs are expected to work at the regional, government and community levels, and will involve broad-based policy dialogue and technical capacity building, as well as targeted community-level interventions. 

Positions are contingent upon receipt of donor funding.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide technical leadership to develop country-wide, multi-level, nested Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems for REDD+.
  • Supervise all technical activities, from design to implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of reports and other deliverables.
  • Participate in regular field visits to project areas to ensure project progress towards activity objectives and goals.
  • Assess under field conditions, the feasibility, scalability and cost-effectiveness of MRV methods.
  • Ensure the inclusion of women and marginalized groups.
  • Assess benefits distribution best practices under a potential national REDD+ program.
  • Develop and deploy scientific tools and methods for improved ecosystem management and carbon sequestration, forest carbon inventory and reference levels (RLs).
