The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.

The Net-Zero Deforestation Zones (NZDZ) Project, a complement to the ICAA II project, is a cross-programmatic initiative that will span our climate, agriculture, forestry and evaluation and research divisions. This initiative seeks to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions in key forest regions of Ecuador, Colombia and Peru. With the support of our local partners, the Rainforest Alliance will develop demonstration pilot projects that promote net-zero deforestation, reduce forest degradation and serve as replicable models for achieving each country’s deforestation goals. Through the development of tools, technologies and methodologies, the training of over 5,000 local experts, and capacity building of local organizations, 1.5 million acres (600,000 hectares) of biodiversity-rich forestland will benefit from improved forest sector governance and land-use planning.
