Status: Part time

Salary: £21k - £24k pro rata, depending on experience

Location: Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park Office, Balloch

Closing date: 13 June 2014

The Scottish Wildlife Trust, Scottish Natural Heritage, Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Land and Estates and Red Squirrel Survival Trust, with support from local people across Scotland, are implementing a major project to help conserve Scotland's red squirrel population.

Employed by the Trust, the successful candidate will oversee work to reduce the threats to red squirrel populations in the Argyll and Trossachs area, by co-ordinating an established programme of grey squirrel control, managing squirrelpox surveillance and volunteer delivery of distribution surveys, and collating data to facilitate evaluation of project methods.

Working in partnership with land and estate managers and local volunteer groups, the Project Officer will provide management advice to landowners, co-ordinate grey squirrel population control and manage the activities of a grey squirrel control officer.

A key part of the job will be to encourage communities of landowners and local people to take greater responsibility for delivering ongoing protection for red squirrels in the long-term.

Applicants will hold a degree or equivalent vocational qualification in countryside management or related discipline, and demonstrate species conservation management experience, ideally with practical experience of mammal and woodland management.

Experience of working with the public, volunteer groups, private landowners and conservation agencies along with excellent interpersonal, presentation and organisational skills are essential.
