About Us

The City of London Corporation manages 11,000 acres (approximately 4,500 hectares) of land in and around London that is enjoyed by over 16 million visitors annually. Whilst there are small pockets of land within the Square Mile, the majority can be found elsewhere in London and the surrounding counties. Epping Forest is one of a number of open spaces, parks, and gardens in and around London owned and managed by the City of London as part of its commitment to sustaining a first-class city. Each open space is a unique resource for the use and enjoyment of the public and for the conservation of wildlife and historic landscape.

The role

The Recycling and Waste Manager will carry out the day-to-day management of the cleanliness and safety of Epping Forest. You will be responsible for optimal service delivery and ensuring that operational function is fulfilled. You will be a prominent visible first point of contact to members of the public, local authority partners, contractors, and community groups engaging with a large, diverse community. You will support Senior Managers with planning and coordination of work plans, create and implement effective rosters and proactively manage Forest Keeper teams. You will support staff development, develop and implement operational policy and/or procedures and ensure that Health and Safety systems are followed.

The ideal candidate

You have a national diploma or NVQ level 3 in countryside management, related subject, or demonstrable industry experience. You have demonstrable knowledge of waste removal and processing legislation and a desire to ensure maximum recycling measures are achieved. You have experience of managing individuals and small teams, working with contractors, volunteers, and local community groups. You have excellent communication skills and a proven track record of handing sensitive situations and dealing with vulnerable people. You are COSHH qualified and have experience in H&S systems. You are skilled in using a wide range of IT skills and programs and interpreting and analysing data. You can demonstrate project and contract management experience and are proficient in fiscal propriety. You hold a full UK driving licence.

Shift and Schedule

The hours of work are expected to be 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, excluding meal breaks of 60 minutes per day.

The role does require weekend working on a 1 in 4 basis. Weekend working is compensated by 2 alternative days off during the week.

Due to the nature of this post, you may be required to work additional hours should this be necessary to fulfil your responsibilities and in accordance with the needs of the service.
