The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is a non-profit organization founded to provide first-rate, unbiased research and technical and scientific analysis to environmental regulators. Our mission is to improve the environmental performance and energy efficiency of road, marine, and air transportation, in order to benefit public health and mitigate climate change.
The ICCT office in Berlin, Germany, is seeking an intern to support the passenger vehicle and heavy-duty vehicle teams in the following areas of work:
- Analyzing laboratory and on-road data from vehicle emissions testing using MATLAB software, with a particular focus on discrepancies between official and real-world emissions behavior of the vehicles.
- Supporting the update and further development of scientific reports on the real-world emissions performance of road vehicles in the EU, such as Real-world exhaust emissions from modern diesel cars and NOx control technologies for Euro 6 diesel passenger cars
- Supporting the update of our report on the growing gap between official type-approval and real-world consumer fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of passenger cars. This includes compiling data from various sources and preparing tables and charts for further analysis and publication.
- Coordination and collaboration with international staff on similar ongoing work in other regions of the world and carrying out comparisons with the results of our European analysis.
Qualifications
- Advanced level experience with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) required
- Experience with MATLAB required, good quantitative and analytical skills required, experience with database software and R statistical software desirable
- Proficiency in English required
- Interest in the European vehicle market and environmental policies is desirable
Position Details
We are expecting to fill this position from Spring 2016 on. The intern is expected to work full time or part-time for 3-6 months at the downtown Berlin ICCT office. Monthly salary for a full-time internship will be 850-1,500 EUR, depending on experience. At the ICCT we offer the opportunity to further develop data analyzing skills as well as presenting research results to policy makers and the general public.
