Location: Various locations across East and West Sussex, with base at Woods Mill, Henfield, Southerham, Lewes or Rye Harbour.

Salary: £23,690

Contract: F/T permanent, 35 hrs per week

The Role

We are looking for a passionate and hard working person to join our Land Management Team as Ranger.

This is a rare opportunity for the successful applicant to join our busy Land Management Team helping with the practical management of our portfolio on nature reserves across Sussex. Your role will be to undertake practical delivery and engagement activity on nature reserves. This is an exciting and varied role that will require travel across Sussex, although you will work in the within a particular region helping the Site Manger to look after a regional cluster of reserves.

You will be out and about undertaking practical habitat management work, leading volunteer groups, repairing and inspecting site infrastructure, operating machinery or carrying out inspections and surveys. Each day will be different across the season, and you may find yourself supervising contractors, inspecting trees, leading guided walks or events, or delivering projects to help benefit wildlife on our nature reserves.

About you:

You will be passionate about wildlife and working outside, preferably with experience and knowledge of nature conservation and Sussex wildlife. You will be very practical with experience and practical certification in use of land based tools and equipment such as operation of chainsaw, brushcutter, and operation of 4x4 vehicles. You will be comfortable with all aspects of estate husbandry such as repairing fencing, gates and other infrastructure related tasks. Ideally you will have good knowledge of Sussex Wildlife and habitats. You will be great with people, leading and engaging volunteers and the public in our work on our reserves. You will have health and safety firmly embedded in your working culture.

This role is predominately based outside in the field with potentially extensive driving across Sussex.

This role will work across 35 hours over 7 days on a rota, with some evening and weekend working required for which time off in lieu will be offered.
