he Quality Engineer/Customer Liaison is responsible for development and qualification of all suppliers utilized at Broadwind Towers and Heavy Industries. This includes, but is not limited to materials suppliers, contractors, and any other related suppliers/vendors. The Supplier Quality Engineer ensures all materials sourced for use at the facilities meet or exceed customer expectations and have been produced in a quality manner. The Supplier Quality Engineer also ensures that contractors performing work onsite at Broadwind Towers and Heavy Industries locations know and follow all applicable company and regulatory requirements and that any contractors performing work on behalf of Broadwind Towers and Heavy Industries represent our Company appropriately.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:includes but is not limited to the following duties.
Supplier Capacity/Logistic Capability
  • Stay connected to supplier delivery – assess and assist in meeting goals of the partnership between the supplier and our team
  • Assess and recommend improvements of supplier capacity – assist with coordination efforts to recommend best practices between supplier and our team.
  • Assist with initial project launches and coordinate with supplier and our teams to meet the business needs of the entire project.
 
 
Supplier Capability Assessment / Initial Qualification
  • Develop and implement the organization’s supplier quality program
  • Identify and Qualify new suppliers, leading and aiding in supplier APQP and PPAP efforts.
  • Assess initial capacity appraisals and new vendor qualifications
  • Reviews purchased products or components and provides input to the decision to accept the product and future purchases from the vendor
  • New supplier contact (sourcing) and relationship development in partnership
  • Evaluate potential new suppliers
  • Perform supplier Quality Systems audits and provide support for supplier Quality Systems improvements.
Supplier Metrics / Scorecard
  • Analyze supplier on-going statistical process capability, Develop and maintain On Time Delivery metric, and other relevant metrics
  • Develop appropriate and effective supplier metrics to monitor effectiveness of supplier quality control system and processes
  • Analyze supplier capabilities. Develop and maintain supplier quality metrics
  • Work with project work teams to define project deliverables, project planning, etc.
Supplier Management and Continuous Improvement
  • Assist with material procurement in sourcing management and cost controls
  • Performs quality engineering reviews of documentation for compliance with stated requirements, including vendor quality manuals and company quality records
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality activities.
  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality activities and provides recommended process improvements to management. Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality activities.
  • Perform initial assessments and periodic audits of supplier quality systems for the purpose of approving new suppliers and verifying continuing supplier conformance to quality system requirements
  • Initiate and follow-up supplier corrective actions to ensure complete and effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Act as liaison for the supplier and the company to resolve nonconformance and quality problems effectively by interacting and communicating with engineering, purchasing, planning, program quality engineers and various levels of management of the supplier and the company.
  • Participate in ISO and Six Sigma initiatives with identified suppliers
  • Major Issue management and ownership
  • Continually work with suppliers to improve performance, implement process control and quality plans
  • Perform supplier Quality Systems audits and provide support for supplier Quality Systems improvements.
  • Develop new work processes, new tools and functional capabilities. Maintain and improve existing quality systems processes.
  • Track disposition of nonconforming materials and approving/filing Supplier Corrective Actions
Safety and Environmental Related Duties
  • Serves as Element Champion for Visitor and Contractor Management
  • Maintains Contractor Certificates of Insurance and ensures they are current
  • Schedules and performs contractor safety briefings to ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Tracks and request MSDS for any products in use or being sourced for use in the facilities
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have experience in Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain and Purchasing.
Candidates must have the ability to maintain excellent working relationships with various internal departments such as Operations, Engineering, EHS Supply Chain, Purchasing and reinforcing networks with External Suppliers. They must also interact routinely with Production, Purchasing, Engineering, and Suppliers to proactively improve quality of components.
Commitment and keen attention to detail will be required in this role to see all tasks through to completion, with strong quality orientation and a methodical approach to work. Success will be determined through a highly motivated, self-starter capable of working and delivering results on own initiative.
Candidates will demonstrate a professional approach with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the business. Good verbal, influencing and numerical skills are needed. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary for dealing with all levels of internal and external suppliers and customers.
 
Education and/or Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing, quality assurance or technical purchasing required. Professionals in this position must have an understanding of a variety of manufacturing processes and equipment. Project management and problem solving skills required as well as experience of Process and Product auditing. Experience in a metals fabrication environment required.
Competent PC skills and comfort using MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, E-mail and other corporate based systems.
Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerance (GD&T).
The following are desired, but not required for this position:
·         Bachelor’s degree in engineering/similar field or Associates Degree in technical discipline. Equivalent professional experience considered.
·         Experience and knowledge of component approval standards e.g. APQP and PPAP
·         Experience working in an engineering or manufacturing role to include manufacturing processes and problem solving quality tools
·         Experience of problem solving tools such as 8D and the 5 Y for root cause
·         Knowledge of ISO9001 or TS16949
·         Experience of Automotive, FMCG, Aerospace or other best practice organizations and processes
·         Working knowledge of basic statistical process control methods.
·         Understanding of lean principles.
·         ISO or Quality Management System auditing experience
·         ASQ Certification as a CQA and/or SSBB
