CDP Europe is currently expanding its communications work and its engagement in EU environmental politics. This is a unique opportunity to develop skills and experience across communications in a dynamic and fast growing business-facing charity. The position will report directly to the Director Policy & Reporting Europe, based in Berlin, with a dotted line to the Director Communications, based in London. The individual will play an integral role working with colleagues based in different European Member states as well as our central communications and government teams to support and extend both our policy engagement and media presence. The successful candidate will work 5 days per week and must be able to work legally in the EU.
The role includes:
Communication:
- Maximizing media coverage of CDP news and proactively generating new media opportunities (e.g. establish media contacts, find industry awards)
- Writing press articles and other communications material as required.
- Contributing to CDP event management.
- Developing content for articles, blogs and marketing collateral.
- Utilising social media tactics to maximize CDP’s digital presence and engage new audiences.
- Managing CDP Europe’s website content.
- Coordinating CDP news with partners in European countries.
Public affairs:
- Contribution to the implementation of the CDP EU government engagement strategy.
- Working with colleagues to identify and disseminate CDP’s key messages to policymakers.
- Development of information material for companies as well as policy makers on the new EU Directive on non-financial reporting (NFR).
- Co-editing a report based on CDP Climate Change data from European companies to inform policy makers about corporate action on climate change
adaptation.
- Contribution to the development of government related fundraising bids.
The successful candidate will have:
- A strong understanding of both public affairs and communications work, with qualifications in one or both areas an advantage
- Relevant work experience in PR, corporate communications or public affairs / a policy-related role, including experience of working with the private sector.
- Strong social media and digital communications capabilities.
- An up-to-date understanding of international and European climate change politics, and a grasp of key political developments in this area. Awareness of (or willingness to learn about) specific policy developments relating to corporate environmental reporting across the world but especially within the EU.
- Experience of working on an international basis within Europe, e.g. to deal with differing languages, time zones and cultural expectations.
- Experience of project management and/or event management.
- Strong prioritization and time management skills, ability to work effectively under pressure, with an eye for details.
- A creative/entrepreneurial streak, with the willingness to listen to feedback and the drive to make improvements to delivery.
- A diligent working style and the ability to break complex information down for communication purposes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the willingness to learn new systems quickly.
- Exceptional communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills.
- Excellent English. Other European languages are an advantage.
- An understanding of the aims and objectives of CDP, including the desire to work proactively to promote corporate sustainability.
