CSIRO is offering a year-in-industry placement to enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate students to assist with the Centre’s research and consulting activities. The successful candidate will gain experience in ecotoxicology. The traineeship is ideal for students considering careers in the areas of ecotoxicology or environmental sciences and is suitable for undergraduate students who have completed at least 1 year of their degree.

As part of your traineeship in Ecotoxicology, you will:

  • Carry out bioassays with aquatic species including microalgae, water fleas, copepods, amphipods, bacteria and duckweed to assess the toxicity of contaminants in natural and polluted waters and sediments.
  • Assist with the development of novel bioassays
  • Maintain cultures of aquatic test species.
  • Assist the supervisor and ecotoxicology team to co-ordinate and carry out commercial and research projects for the mining industry and port and water authorities.
