The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. Role Profile

ZSL is seeking a Project Coordinator to help ensure ZSL Mongolia Conservation Programme projects meet both goals and donor requirements, by providing administrative support to staff managing a suite of innovative projects. Typically, these tasks will involve working closely with the Country Manager and Programme Manager to support them with financial administration, completion of records in the ZSL projects database, contribution to reports, and contribution towards development of funding proposals. There is also an element whereby the role holder will assist the Country Manager with the development and implementation of projects which are themed on integrated landscape management, species conservation (namely the Bactrian Camel), protected area management and combating wildlife crime. 

The post-holder will be integral in facilitating communications and coordinating the completion of tasks between ZSL offices in London and the Country Programme Office in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia where the successful individual will primary be based. There will also be regular trips to our field projects to provide technical advice and support.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support administration activities for existing projects with work plans being followed ensuring project objectives are fully met.
  • Support the Country Manager and Finance Officer in overall financial management of the programme.
  • Work closely with the Country Manager and Programme Manager –South and Central Asia (PM) to support the development  of new projects in line with the vision and strategy for ZSL’s work in Mongolia.
  • Support the monitoring & evaluation of projects that support ZSL’s conservation strategy.
  • Support the Country Manager to ensure ZSL Mongolia obligations to Mongolia’s Ministry of Environment and Green Development under an agreed MoU are met, including programme operational plan and regular reports.
 

Person Specification

Ideally the successful candidate will have:

  • A higher degree in a relevant subject such as Natural Resources policy, biology, forestry, conservation, management, economics, or Bachelor degree (with equivalent experience) in biology or forest conservation or equivalent work experience.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with teams.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing species conservation programs and ensuring their sustainability beyond project life.
  • Broad and current knowledge of biodiversity conservation issues in Asia and ideally in Mongolia.

Please note: The position is a 1 year fixed-term contract with the view of it being extended a further 1 year dependant on project funding. The position is based in the Country Programme Head Office Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
