About Us:

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Overview:

ZSL is looking for a Projects Coordinator, for a fixed term of six months, to support the delivery of the EDGE Fellowship within the EDGE of Existence Programme, by providing administrative support to staff managing the Fellows and projects, including assisting with the organisation of the annual overseas-based Conservation Tools and UK-based Leadership training courses. This will be for 3 days per week.

 

The post holder will also support the planning and delivery of a broad portfolio of conservation technology projects, working closely with team members to ensure goals and donor requirements are met. This will include a citizen science project to engage the public through live camera trap data (Instant Wild) and a real-time sensor system to support anti-poaching and remote wildlife monitoring (Instant Detect).  This will be for 2 days per week.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of two of the most innovative teams within ZSL’s Conservation Programmes, and be part of shaping and driving forward a variety of exciting projects.   

 
Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Other Main Duties will include but are not limited to:

 

  • In accordance with ZSL procedures for approval of travel and insurance cover, the post holder makes visa, travel and logistical arrangements for field staff, volunteers and students engaged on the courses and projects.

 

  • The post holder supports project managers in the production of promotional materials and fundraising proposals for the projects as needed.
 
Person Specification:
  • Be educated to degree standard or equivalent qualification or equivalent level of work experience in a related field
  • Have prior experience supporting conservation or development projects (desirable)
  • Have prior experience organising travel and courses in remote regions  (desirable)
  • Have prior experience conducting data analysis on big data sets and applying statistical techniques (desirable)
  • Practical implementation of technology in conservation or relative projects (desirable)
