Description
The role

We’re looking for a Project Support Officer to assist the Water Framework Directive (WFD) team in identifying actions and managing data, work programmes and projects necessary to drive environmental improvements across the Wessex area to meet ambitious targets set under the Water Framework Directive (WFD).

The team

The Wessex WFD planning and delivery team plans, coordinates and helps deliver WFD targets – we look at what needs doing, find a way of doing it and make it happen by coordinating our own and other staff and partners’ work to improve the water environment.

Experience/skills required

We’re seeking a technical person with some project and data /office-based experience. You’ll be qualified at least to GCSE level or above, in appropriate technical disciplines and have relevant work experience in a project support role. You’ll have a proven ability in accurate management of data and information and in reporting.

Other key requirements include good organisational and communication skills, and the ability to think creatively and solve problems. We’re looking for a good team player, someone who is highly motivated, and can work on their own initiative and who shares our enthusiasm for improving the environment. You’ll need to be comfortable working with staff across all departments in the Area and Region and in supporting work with external partners.

Additional useful information

This is one of two posts which support the work of the WFD planning and delivery team; part of the team is based in Blandford, and part in Bridgwater. The team works across the whole Wessex area.

The WFD is the most substantial piece of European Commission (EC) water legislation in recent years. The first River Basin Management Plan in 2009 set us an ambitious target of achieving good ecological status/potential in at least 43% of waterbodies by 2015. We are also now planning for the second cycle of plans to improve more of the water environment up to 2027 as well as delivering programmes of environmental improvement works.

Interviews are planned to be held in Bridgwater, the date to be confirmed but potentially, weeks commencing 20 or 27 May 2013.
