Description

TRAFFIC recently secured Global Environment Facility funding in Thailand, via UNDP, to manage a suite of activities to reduce consumer demand for illegal wildlife products, and to monitor availability of these products in physical and online market locations. This post will provide support to the project, liaising closely with the TRAFFIC Project Manager and other key stakeholders based in Thailand, as well as other TRAFFIC team members in Asia.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

• The postholder will lead and conduct assessment of market availability for five CITES-listed species chosen as indicators in collaboration with the CITES Management Authority of Thailand.
• Design, plan and carry out physical and online market surveys to acquire information about illegal wildlife trade; Develop a plan/protocol, budget, questionnaires for online and physical market surveys on wildlife species in consultation relevant TRAFFIC staff.
• Research wildlife trade issues in selected physical market locations in Thailand and online platforms; compile data into standard excel spreadsheet formats.
• Undertake preliminary analysis of the data; Produce technical report of surveys data.
• Provide technical guidance and support in collecting and verifying media reports in relation to incidents of wildlife seizures linked to Thailand.
• Collect, verify, input and report to enforcement agencies where possible to enable the consistent monitoring of cases, research and follow up as required to track progress of investigations.
• Conduct research online identifying emerging modus operandi, platforms used, and actors involved in wildlife trade of target species in Thailand and connected globally.
• Undertakes other tasks relevant to the project as assigned.
