Project Officer South West Scotland – Red Squirrels in South Scotland

£21-24k per annum (full-time)

Based at Southern Upland Partnership offices at Kirkgunzeon near Dumfries

We are looking for a Project Officer, with special responsibilities for data-handling and surveying inSouth Scotland, to complete the Red Squirrels inSouth Scotlandproject team (Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels South Scotland branch). The successful candidate will support and expand a comprehensive grey squirrel control network and squirrelpox surveillance scheme in South West Scotland, will develop volunteer surveys across the whole ofSouth Scotland, and collect and collate the project’s many data streams.

A vehicle will be provided with this post.

Applicants will hold a degree in in ecology, biology, geography, countryside management or related discipline. He/she will be experienced in carrying out standardised wildlife surveying, and with firm grasp of scientific method and report writing.

Experience of handling large and varied datasets, plus working with volunteers and the general public, private landowners, conservation agencies along with excellent organisational skills are essential.

Some working in remote locations in challenging environments required. A current driving licence is essential.

The positions are expected to start as soon as possible and run until the31 March 2014.
