Under the guidance of the Head of Programme, IUCN China, with close collaboration with the Programme Manager of South China, the Programme Officer of Eco-Longmen Project and all other technical staff, the Project Officer is to facilitate the implementation of the IUCN projects, especially in the Dongjiang River Basin, especially to contribute to:

- The development and implementation of the Eco-Longmen Project and Xunwu Dongjiang Source Project.

- Fundraising and programme development strategies for Dongjiang and South China.

- Organizational matters including membership and partnership development, office administration and management etc.
JOB DESCRIPTION
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Officer is expected, under the supervision of Head of Programme of IUCN China, and with close cooperation with Programme Manager, South China and Programme Officer, Eco-Longmen, as well as external donors, partners and stakeholders, to undertake following tasks:

1 Support extension and implementation of the Xunwu Dongjiang Source Project:

- Support the strategy development and project extension of Xunwu project from 2016 and onwards; 

- Participate in the development of annual project workplans and budgets of the Xunwu project. 

- Take the lead in implementing assigned activities according to the workplan and budget of the project, possibly including the community engagement, education centre management, environment education, protected areas management as well as public participation.; 

- Support to manage the workplace, the local team and the local networks in Xunwu; 

2 Support to extension and implementation of the Eco-Longmen Project:

- Support the strategy development and project extension of Eco-Longmen project from 2016 and onwards; 

- Participate in the development of annual project workplans and budgets of the Eco-Longmen project. 

- Support the further development of the community products of the Eco-Longmen project, including the Eco-rice, orchard, honey etc., focusing on the marketing and communications. 

- Support to organize public education and engagement and volunteering activities to profile the community initiatives and to develop in-depth stories.

3 Support other programmatic initiatives

- Support the formulation and execution of the IUCN-GEF project, focusing on Dongjiang Source. 

- Support the development and implementation of marine and coastal initiatives, particularly for mangroves and coastal wetlands. 

4 Support organizational matters in South China

- Support to develop membership, partnerships and networks for strategic organizational development in South China

- Support the management and administration of field project office in Guangzhou and workspace in Xunwu. 

5 Perform other tasks

- Contribute to the development of plans, strategies and fundraising proposals, in support of IUCN’s projects and initiatives in general in China.

- Undertake other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.



EXPECTED COMPETENCIES

- At least 3 years relevant experience in project management with international organizations or NGOs. 

- A university degree in a discipline relevant to ecology, environment, economics or related natural or social sciences.

- Ability to work under pressure with limited supervision, and willingness to undertake frequent travel 

- Native Chinese speaker with reasonable command of English. 

- Ability to speak Cantonese and Hakka Chinese would be an asset 

- Computer literacy
