Reporting to the Fisheries Assessment Manager (FAM), the Project Officer will be assisting with implementing the MSC’s policies and procedures for the assessment of fisheries against the MSC’s Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Fishing (the MSC Standard). In particular, the Project Officer is responsible for supporting the Fisheries team with delivery of some specific projects related to the MSC scheme.

Further Information

The MSC’s Standards Team are charged with the development and maintenance of the MSC’s standards and certification programmes covering the two main areas of fisheries assessment and chain of custody through the supply chain. The team has responsibility for:

  • Maintenance and review of the MSC standard
  • Ensuring consistency with international guidelines
  • Anchoring and leading the development of guidelines and directives related to standard implementation through the MSC’s governance bodies
  • Maintaining quality assurance of standard implementation through engagement with MSC's accreditation body
  • Active management of related key stakeholder relationships

Their work is critical to ensuring the credibility, rigour, quality and consistency of the MSC programme.

Skills Required

The post holder will be required to:

  • Be highly organised and accurate, paying special attention to detail
  • Analyse data using Microsoft Access and Excel
  • Communicate clearly with key colleagues and MSC stakeholders where needed
  • Produce clearly written reports and other outputs
