Are you interested in strengthening our work to the fast growth and sustainable development of the waste and marine litter programmes and the transition to circular economy? Are you professionally curious and can make good judgment in complex cases? GRID-Arendal is seeking interested candidates for a two-year employment, starting as soon as possible, with possibility for extension. The position will be under the supervision of the Chief Scientist.

Main activities:

  • Independently conduct research, analysis, summarize findings and write communication outputs, concept notes for events, policy oriented papers, project proposals and reports.
  • Support the programme with applying various technical tools such as GIS, open data sources to collect information and analyses;
  • Synthesize research findings through writing and editing content for publications, reports, news stories, and policy briefs, among others, for print and online platforms, including websites and blogs;
  • Organise events, meetings, and workshops including defining and conceptualizing their focus and providing general logistic coordination;
  • Contribute towards the development of innovative communication products for a wide variety of stakeholders and end users;

Preferred professional qualifications

  • Master degree or equivalent in environmental science, development studies or related field preferably with a bias to waste and marine litter issues;
  • Minimum one year working experience;
  • Interest in working with developing countries;
  • Comfortable in use of GIS software;
  • Good general computer skills;
  • Excellent English language proficiency both oral and written,
  • Good command of Norwegian language also preferred;
  • Must be capable of working both independently and in coordination with others;
  • Experience in working with the United Nations system, especially UN Environment is an advantage;
  • Excellent networking ability and diplomatic skills.

Preferred personal qualifications:

  • Excellent team player and ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Well-organized, efficient and thorough, flexible, and adaptable;
  • Creative and willing to take initiative;
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks, at times under pressing deadlines;
  • Methodical and able to pay attention to detail;
  • Ability to work with/understand international cultures.

Compensation:

GRID-Arendal’s salary system is linked to the Norwegian Government salary system. It is based on education and experience. Salaries are subject to Norwegian tax regulations. Insurance and personal benefits are provided in addition to salary.
