Description

This is a key role working as part of our professional team supporting the coordination and delivery of the projects within the Madagascar & Mascarenes Regional Programme, with a focus on the Mangabe Landscape project. The role will primarily provide project management support, including facilitating internal and external stakeholder involvement, work plan management, managing monitoring and evaluation processes, and ensuring effective communications with partners and external audiences.

As a Project Officer you will: 

  • Provide administrative and technical support to the Regional Programme Manager by assisting in the design and implementation of impactful projects and ensuring that project management processes are adhered to.
  • Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders (including internal project teams, international partners and donors).
  • Maintain, manage and enhance lines of communication between Chester Zoo and field implementation partners
  • Support the planning, logistics and organisation of staff travel and exchanges between organisations to facilitate technical support and capacity building opportunities.
  • Manage an annual project budget ensuring all internal accounting processes are adhered to and accurate records are maintained.
  • Facilitate and support production of communication materials relating to field projects for various audiences and media. 
  • Support development of fundraising proposals and ensure that reporting requirements are satisfied and donor relationships are maintained.

The Package

  • Contract – 23 months

Our Requirements – Project Officer (Madagascar & the Mascarenes)

  • MSc biological sciences or similar, or equivalent experience
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and networking skills, with evidence of this being applied in different cultural settings
  • Minimum 3 years experience of field project management - design, implementation and monitoring; including experience of field research, surveys, population monitoring, and/or protected area management in Africa and ideally in Madagascar.
  • Strong organisational and record keeping skills, including excellent time management; administration; logistical and planning skills; and, collation of data for reports.
  • Knowledge of ex-situ and in-situ conservation role of zoos
  • Experience of successful fundraising, donor management, and funding report writing
  • Excellent spoken and written English
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Experience travelling (and ideally working) in tropical and developing countries

Although not essential, the following would be desirable:

  • French or Malagasy language skills highly advantageous
  • Knowledge of data science tools (R, Python etc.) and GIS (Q, Arc etc.) desirable
