Description

BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced individual for the position of Project Officer USAID-PREPARED Project. The main responsibility will be to support the delivery of the PREPARED USAID project on “Promoting Sustainable Management of the Mara Wetlands” in Tanzania. Specifically the individual will be required to:  

Stakeholder mobilization and engagement:

·         Mobilization of stakeholders including local conservation groups within the Mara wetlands for the development and implementation of the Integrated Management Plan (IMP) for the wetland;

·         Organizing project meeting including workshops, district meetings and community meetings for awareness raising and consensus building for the IMP development;

·         Support the project implementation team to follow up on issues pertinent to the project at local, district and regional level;

·         Mobilization of at Mara bay and Masirori swamp;

·         Support LCGs to develop activity plans and provide technical support for implementation;

Communication and information management:

·         Collate baseline information and write report with regards to the project sites and groups;

·         Write and submit monthly project reports;

·         Design and produce awareness material to promote the wise use of Mara wetlands;

Project management

·         Conduct the day-to-day project implementation activities at the sites;

·         Develop and produce high quality monthly reports as required;

·         Develop and implement basic data tools for data collection;

·         Carry out any other duties from time to time as required by line-manager;

 

Qualification and Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s degree in community development, natural resource management, sociology or a relevant field of study

·         Good knowledge of community development, natural resource and wetlands management.

·         Demonstrable experience of working in community-based natural resource management with extensive interaction with community groups, government department, civil society organizations.

·         Experience of working with stakeholders in the Mara wetlands in an added advantage.

·         Ability to determine and set work priorities organise activities and meet deadlines.

·         Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

·         Good analytical skills.

·         Proven ability that the person is a self-starter capable of working under limited supervision.

·         Excellent computer skills.

·         Competent communication and writing skills in English.

·         Willingness to travel frequently to project sites and stay for extended periods of time and regional travel.
