Description

The EEA is an Agency of the European Union (EU) and one of the decentralised Community bodies. The EEA aims to support sustainable development and to help achieve significant and measurable improvement in Europe’s environment, through the provision of timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to policy-making agents and the public.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Project Officer – Environmental assessments and indicators will support work in the area of indicator-based reporting and integrated environmental assessment. Key tasks of the post will include streamlining of EU indicator sets, integration of information, support to organisational processes and analytical quality control. The position will have a central function in streamlining EEA indicator and reporting systems and help to develop integrated and forward-looking assessments across the organisation.

The open competition linked to the above post will also serve to establish a reserve list for project officer posts linked to data management, thematic environmental assessment and the formulation of user requirements for relevant information services. Relevant analytical areas and environmental themes include: environment and health; environmental accounting, spatial analysis, sustainable consumption and production, climate change, air pollution, water quality and quantity, land use and biodiversity. On the basis of the Agency’s requirements one or several additional profiles will be developed that will be filled with candidates from the reserve list to be established. This means that also candidates that cannot cover all the tasks listed below are encouraged to apply.

Successful applicant(s) will be asked to tackle a range of the following tasks:

  • Analysing and quality assuring data and information for issues relevant to sustainable consumption, resource efficiency and forward-looking analysis as well as the above listed environmental themes.
  • Locating and retrieving research results, information, reports and data sources relevant to the assessment work of the listed environmental themes;
  • Supporting the compilation and quality assurance of inventories related to air and greenhouse gas emissions, air quality measurements and environmental noise measurements;
  • Supporting the streamlining of EEA indicator and reporting systems in the context of European priority setting in the field;
  • Help improving indicators, their management and their links to data flows from EEA countries, EU partners and other international organisations; supporting the integrated assessment of key trends in reports, indicator fact sheets and concise briefings;
  • In a user perspective, help conceptually to develop multiple information services (e.g. Eye on Earth applications) fostering data exchange and targeted dissemination that support the integration of thematic communities (e.g. on water) around such data and information platforms (e.g. research bodies, utilities, environmental administration);
  • Organisational support to (pan-)European and international reporting processes in contact with EEA internal and external partners;
  • Organising meetings and workshops with experts from across Europe;
  • Facilitating the development of methods including spatial analysis, data modelling, environmental accounting, environmental outlooks and scenarios.
