The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) is looking for a Project Manager/Lawyer (Environmental Law Programme) for implementing environmental law projects and to replace a member of staff on maternity leave.

The Environmental Law Programme contributes to environmental protection and sustainable development through the progressive development of international and domestic environmental law and through support to legal communities in Central and Eastern European countries, including independent environmental lawyers, judges, prosecutors and others. The Environmental Law Programme is dedicated to the progressive development of environmental law both internationally and within each Central and Eastern European (CEE) country through support to the development of multilateral environmental agreements, state-of-the-art legislation, citizens’ environmental rights, and legal professionalism.

Main Responsibilities

-The main projects on which the successful candidate will work include Progress Monitoring for EU Candidate Countries in the Area of Environment; and the Environmental Law Approximation Network (ELAN) for South Eastern Europe.

  • Preparing and implementing the environmental law projects of the REC.
  • Coordinating the activities of the project team.
  • Preparing progress reports and tracking project expenditures.
  • Handling day-to-day relations with clients, donors, beneficiaries and outside partners.
  • Developing project ideas and business plans for future projects.
  • Representing the REC at international and regional public and professional events.

Experience and skill level required

  • A minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience in environmental law.
  • Solid organisational and project management skills, including budgeting.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication skills in English (proficiency in one regional language is also preferred).
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of relevant software applications.

Education

Degree in law (advanced degree preferred, European Union law valuable).


The position is based in the REC Head Office in Szentendre, Hungary.

The employment contract will initially be limited to 3 months with a possibility of extension.
