Description

OSFAC (Observatoire Satellital des Forêts d’Afrique Centrale) is the headquarters for the regional GOFC-GOLD network. It is a duly authorized Congolese NGO, based in Kinshasa, DRC and has six full time professional staff. OSFAC provides mapping services for local national and international government and non-government organizations. Its unique long term objectives are to produce reliable information on forest cover and forest cover change across Central Africa using satellite data and to build regional capacity to use remotely sensed data and products.

OSFAC seeks a Project Manager based in Kinshasa, DRC to manage the program, expand its activities and plan for its long term sustainability. The Manager will be responsible for the employees, logistics and day-to-day operations as well as the following:

  1. Foster partnerships with the appropriate national, regional and international institutions, agencies and NGOs to promote the use of remote sensing data and GIS for the sustainable management of Congo Basin forests.
  2. Further develop OSFAC's capacity for monitoring land use and land cover change using remote sensing data and GIS. This includes assuring that the infrastructure, technical expertise and data access are in place to deliver land cover monitoring products derived from remote sensing data.
  3. Update and maintain the OSFAC/GOFC-GOLD remote sensing data archive, network and distribution functions.
  4. Manage a variety of GIS/RS projects and contracts.
  5. Negotiate contracts, including creation of proposals, work plans, budgets, and assure timely delivery of products.
  6. Oversee accounting and finances.
  7. Manage agreements with donors, deliver quarterly and annual reports to donors, and respond to donor requests for specific products and information.
  8. Maintain existing and initiate new training programs and workshops in GIS and RS.
  9. Work with and report to the OSFAC Board of Directors.
  10. Look for additional opportunities for OSFAC.

Qualifications

  1. Undergraduate or Graduate degree in Environmental Science / Natural Resources / Agronomy or a related field.
  2. Three to four years of proven project management experience.
  3. Fluency, spoken and written, in English and French.
  4. Experience in GIS or Remote Sensing is highly desirable.

Salary commensurate with experience.
