Established in 2015, the Certification and Ratings Collaboration is an effort among five seafood certification and ratings programs to increase efficiency, address challenges, and help more fisheries and aquaculture take steps toward environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and economic viability. The Collaboration saw a need to bring together certifications and ratings; wild-caught and farmed seafood; and environmental, social, and other relevant issues into one conversation to provide complementary and coordinated tools, incentives, and strategies for measuring and improving fishery and aquaculture performance. The participating organizations are the Aquaculture Stewardship Council, Fair Trade USA, Marine Stewardship Council, Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch, and Sustainable Fisheries Partnership.

The Collaboration seeks to hire a full-time contractor to serve as project manager supporting the Collaboration’s steering committee, its chair, and the Collaboration sub-committees. The role is many-faceted and every day will be different. The project manager will provide vital support to help the Collaboration achieve its goals to help fisheries and aquaculture accelerate their progress toward sustainability.

Job Responsibilities

Support the steering committee and overall Collaboration by:

  • Maintaining the full picture of the Collaboration’s work by tracking progress and reporting against the workplan and related attainment against goals and objectives
  • Drafting communications and reports required by supporting foundations and the fiscal sponsor
  • Supporting the steering committee in preparing papers for meetings
  • Coordinating event logistics and meeting preparations
  • Managing information and communication systems
  • Managing and reporting on the budget
  • Hiring facilitators and other consultants as required

Support the chairperson by:

  • Supporting preparations of communications to external stakeholders
  • Drafting initial agendas for and planning of steering committee calls
  • Preparing summaries of steering committee calls and meetings
  • Maintaining the meeting schedule, future agenda planning, and progress against action items

Support the sub-committee leads by:

  • Supporting hiring and management of consultants, including drafting terms of reference and vetting consultant candidates
  • Scheduling calls and meetings, managing logistics, and producing meeting summaries
  • Coordinating meeting logistics and helping to prepare papers for sub-committee meetings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • At least seven years of experience in project management
  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders, including coordinating resources and helping projects stay on track with timelines
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, including experience working with senior executives and managing challenging situations with discretion and diplomacy
  • Experience planning meetings and events, including researching venues, reviewing contracts, and arranging logistical details
  • Excellent professional writing and editing skills
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks against deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and willingness to work a flexible schedule as needed with occasional travel (four to six trips/year)
  • Familiarity with sustainable seafood issues and/or nonprofit collaborations preferred

Compensation and Location

The position is a full-time contractor position with an initial contract term of one year. Depending on workplan development and funding support, this initial term may be extended. Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. The project manager may work remotely (either from the UK or the U.S. east coast), or work from the London-based Collaboration members’ offices.
