Description of Position

The Project Manager will provide leadership on natural resource management (NRM) activities, including biodiversity conservation, climate change, sustainable forestry, REDD+, ecosystem services, etc. S/he will manage and provide technical input for proposal development efforts; provide home office management support to the implementation of projects (long-term) and assignments (short-term); and cultivate strategic relationships with clients, partners, and international experts.

Responsibilities:

  • Track and conduct research concerning new business opportunities in NRM, including reaching out to partners and exploring opportunities for collaboration;
  • Draft technical inputs and approaches for proposals with an NRM focus;
  • Support the work planning, execution of, and reporting for NRM projects and assignments, including sourcing short-term consultants, drafting scopes of work, and coordinating with ECODIT contracts and administrative personnel as necessary;
  • Monitor, oversee, and provide quality control of NRM projects and assignments via regular check-ins with field-based project managers and team leaders, reviewing and commenting on project deliverables, and conducting occasional two- to three-week field visits;
  • Participate as a technical team member of short-term assignments, including assessments, evaluations, and other technical assistance;
  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with other NRM firms and NGOs, track trends in the NRM and biodiversity conservation field, and keep current on USAID practices
    and thinking; and
  • Assist with other ECODIT projects and efforts as needed.

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of international experience in NRM (e.g., biodiversity conservation, climate change, sustainable forestry, sustainable agricultural intensification, ecosystem services)
  • At least 5 years of experience working on USAID-funded NRM projects and assignments
  • Strong knowledge of USAID procedures and policies (e.g., Evaluation, Climate Change, FORWARD, etc.)
  • Solid network of contacts with USAID NRM offices and NRM consultants and partners
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English
  • Ability to work independently and entrepreneurially in a flexible small-business environment
  • Fluency in at least one relevant language other than English is a plus
  • Overseas experience in developing countries is highly desirable
  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in environmental management, forestry, environmental science or policy, biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, international development, or another related field.
