Salary Range:

$73,244.00 to $81,592.00 per year.

Summary of Function:

TRCA is seeking an enthusiastic leader who has a passion for advancing and accelerating the practice of neighbourhood-based urban retrofits to achieve sustainability goals.  This individual will have a unique opportunity to develop and launch strategic action agendas by bringing together science and local interest with creative ways of inspiring a diverse range of implementation partners.
The selected candidate will direct the preparation of integrated watershed plans and sustainable neighbourhood retrofit plans, including arrangements for their implementation, by applying state of the art science and innovative community engagement approaches.  Through the process this individual will ensure the interests of the Authority, its municipal partners and other stakeholders are met.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Post-secondary education in environmental studies, geography, natural sciences, water resources or civil engineering, planning, or a related field;
  • 5 years relevant work experience;
  • Working knowledge and understanding of watershed ecosystems, urban watershed management strategies, science-based approaches to performance monitoring, urban sustainability and community based social marketing concepts;
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to design and deliver programs;
  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary context and in collaboration with diverse partner groups, including municipalities, community-based organizations and businesses;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences;
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, analytical, and organizational skills.

Example of Tasks:

Perform the following tasks under general supervision:
1. Design appropriate approaches for the development of watershed plans and sustainable neighbourhood retrofit plans, based on an understanding of each watershed's key issues, Authority and stakeholder interests, and information gaps, in cooperation with the watershed specialist.
2. Provide project management, including project design and work plan development, budget preparation, and cost control.
3. Coordinate and integrate the workplans, findings and recommendations of Authority technical staff responsible for overseeing the required technical work components, and seek input from other Authority staff and consultants as appropriate.
4. Coordinate workplans to address input from multi - stake holder committees, such as the Humber Watershed Alliance, and public consultation process with guidance from the watershed specialist.
5. Maintain state-of-the-art knowledge in watershed / subwatershed planning, municipal sustainability planning, and neighbourhood-based urban retrofit approaches.
6. Prepare reports and communications and give presentations and tours to senior staff and Authority Boards, interest groups, other agencies and the public.
7. Prepare and coordinate proposals for partnership agreements and non-traditional sources of funding to assist in achieving mutual objectives.
8. Develop and maintain effective partnerships and client relations with municipal, provincial, and federal government staff, other agencies / groups, consultants, academics and the general public.
9. Assist in hiring, supervising, and directing staff and consultants in undertaking special studies in support of the preparation of watershed / subwatershed plans, sustainable neighbourhood retrofit action plans or Authority policy, or to assist in the resolution of related issues.
10. Represent the Authority's interests as a member of inter-agency committees, at meetings, in the review of external agency documents, etc.
11. Undertake other related tasks.
