TFT (The Forest Trust) is an international fast growing and dynamic non-profit organization which helps companies transform their supply chains across the world for the benefit of people and nature.
TFT is seeking an experienced and motivated
PROJECT MANAGER
based in Sandakan/Malaysia
to lead our Rurality programme to drive transformation across connected supply chains, from business to smallholder farmers, catalysing innovation to empower smallholder farmers and build their resilience.

The main responsibilities of the Project Manager are to:
Plan, coordinate and oversee the implementation of activities in Rurality projects in Malaysia, ensuring all delivery targets are satisfactorily met. This includes developing and monitoring work plans, supervising field work, managing project budget, reporting on progress/ challenges/ issues etc.
Lead and manage a team of field officers to carry out field work based on agreed work plans
Manage internal and external stakeholder, including building new relationships with businesses, NGOs, government agencies etc.
Actively promote and improve visibility of Rurality programme in Malaysia
Provide strategic advice and support new business development opportunities in the region
Contribute to new innovations and ideas, including but not limited to databases, digital innovations, performance indicators etc.
Expected Deliverables
Rurality projects in Malaysia are satisfactorily meeting their targets – objectives, member’s expectations and budget
Good working relationships with smallholder farmers, businesses, government and NGOs, as well as internal stakeholders
Improved visibility of Rurality programme in Malaysia
Support other initiatives/ projects in Malaysia, when needed
Master’s / Bachelor degree or other equivalent higher level training in agricultural, sociology, rural development, forestry, natural resource management, environmental sciences, social sciences, business or other related field
Advanced writing and communication skills in English; Bahasa Malaysia and local Sabah dialect will be a plus
Well-developed management and leadership capabilities
Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office Programme suite etc.
5 ? 8 years of relevant business or non-profit experience, with increasing responsibilities in programme and people management
Field experience, particularly with local communities, in rural areas
Good listening skills and humility
Ability to spend time in remote & rural areas, and to work independently
Entrepreneur spirit – to develop and free up innovations from farmers
Financial management & administration
People management & staff development
Client and stakeholder management
Candidate should be prepared to work in both corporate and field settings. Long hours, sometimes over weekends for travel duty
The job will be based in Sandakan, with frequent travels within Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia.
