Description
BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced individual to manage a regional Oil & Gas Project in West Africa. As a core staff member within the BirdLife Office in Dakar, you will undertake a range of duties associated with improving environmental performance, particularly in the oil & gas industry in West Africa.
 
Key responsibilities will include:
• Manage project related to BirdLife International’s work on offshore oil & gas developments in West Africa.
• Support team’s engagements in West Africa, particularly on information management and bird and biodiversity safeguard.
• Deliver successful conservation outcomes for BirdLife International in its work with businesses, with a focus on offshore oil & gas developments in West Africa.
 
GENERAL DUTIES
• Manage and coordinate a large project working to improve environmental safeguards in the offshore oil & gas sector in West Africa. 
• Engage with BirdLife Partner NGOs and corporate entities to identify sustainability opportunities, particularly related to offshore and near-shore developments in West Africa.
• Conduct due diligence and facilitate collaborative projects that address biodiversity objectives of strategic value to both parties, including initiatives that align with BirdLife's conservation programmes, and corporate commitments to biodiversity.
• Engage with BirdLife Partner NGOs and business partners to facilitate collaborative partnerships that address biodiversity objectives of strategic value to both parties, addressing both species and sites of importance to BirdLife.
• Seek opportunities to raise the profile of the oil & gas project through appropriate networks, publications and events.
 
Required skills, experience and qualifications:  
• Postgraduate degree in natural science or in a relevant field of study.
• A proven track record of developing and managing conservation projects; experience in collaborative NGOs and business projects is a strong advantage.
• Knowledge of oil & gas industry and/or corporate sustainability would be an advantage.
• The ability to remotely manage consultant and teams in the achievement of their specific projects across specific lead areas within the programme. 
• Fluency in French and English essential, ability to work in Portuguese is desirable.
• Willing and able to travel; ability to drive in all countries. An ability to travel up to 10 weeks in any one year may be required.

The position will be based in Dakar, Senegal. 
 
Salary & benefits:
Commensurate with experience and qualifications and in accordance with BirdLife International, Africa Division terms and conditions. 
• Gross monthly salary of EURO 3,000 – 3,500, plus pension and other benefits 
• Length/duration of this position: 3 years (renewable)
• Working hours: Full time 40 hours per week
