Role Profile

ZSL is looking for an experienced project manager to join its Conservation and Policy Department’s Marine and Freshwater Team. The successful candidate will manage the exciting and collaborative #OneLess project, delivering an innovative London-wide campaign to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles in London. With demonstrable high impact to date, #OneLess is taking a ‘systems change’ approach to tackle ocean plastic pollution at source and reduce London’s plastic footprint by changing the way Londoners hydrate and creating a more ocean-friendly society.

Using the ‘flagship’ single-use plastic water bottle, #OneLess aims to systemically transform London and to connect people to the ocean; changing their perceptions, values and behaviour, and reducing the number of plastic bottles entering the ocean.

The project manager will be responsible for driving the delivery of the #OneLess project and associated strategy, including management of the project assistant, and strategic development and implementation of campaign activities. They will be responsible for managing grant budgets, as well as administrative, financial and reporting requirements for this project.

The project manager will work closely with the #OneLess project partners; Communications Inc, Forum for the Future, and the Thames Estuary Partnership.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for line-managing the #OneLess Project Assistant.
  • Works closely with campaign partners implement the strategy.
  • Acts as key point of contact with campaign partners.
  • Manages (and where appropriate builds) relationships and partnerships with a wide network of stakeholders.
  • Works closely with partners to develop, design and deliver projects, campaigns and events in line with the strategy.
  • Contributes to development of policy positions, case studies, toolkits, blogs and other grey literature.
  • Oversees the development and production of campaign communications outputs.
  • Works closely with the Evidence and Evaluation lead for the project to guide the implementation of learning and evaluation frameworks and ensure that outputs contribute to the campaign strategy and aims.
  • Identifies funding opportunities and contribute to the production of project specific fundraising and grant proposals.
  • Is responsible for ensuring that the project budget(s) (~£250,000 per year) is / are appropriately monitored, recorded, and reported on.
  • Represents ZSL and #OneLess in meetings and at national and international conferences and workshops (virtual or in person as appropriate).
  • Acts as a spokesperson for ZSL and the #OneLess campaign.

Person Specification

  • BSc/BA in a relevant subject or relevant experience.
  • Experience in managing collaborative projects with multiple partner organisations involved.
  • Experience in working with environmental and/or industry stakeholders on topics relating to policy and systems change.
  • Experience in managing and delivering complex multi-partner projects, events and campaigns on time and to budget.
  • Experience in facilitating events, including interactive workshops with multiple and varied stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing relationships with funders and undertaking all aspects of grant administration and management, including legal management, budgeting, expenditure tracking across large multi-year grants, and reporting.
  • Proven experience in writing in a range of styles for varied audiences (including, but not exclusive to; reports, website content, parliamentary briefings, blogs, consultation responses and policy position statements).
  • Experience in fundraising and developing grant proposals.
