Develop and coordinate the preparation of conservation land management plans and master plans.  Coordinate the TRCA land management program and integrate TRCA objectives into trail and land management agreements for conservation lands.  Provide excellent customer and client service.  Occupational Health and Safety is a major responsibility of this position.
NOTE:  Hiring at TRCA is contingent to the clearance of Vulnerable Sector Screening. Candidates will be asked for a screening only where they have been selected as the leading candidate.

Knowledge:

  • Minimum 4 year degree in environmental planning, resource management or related discipline;
  • Minimum 4 years experience related to major tasks;
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and implement projects;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with community groups and advisory panels;
  • Ability to work with community groups and advisory panels;
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends;
  • Strong analytical skill;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills ie. GIS, Database Management, Word Processing;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of municipal and provincial legislation relevant to conservation land planning including the Planning Act and the Conservation Authorities Act;
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License an asset.

Example of Tasks:

Perform the following tasks under direct supervision:
1. Provide project management for short and long term Authority land planning and management projects, including management  and master plans, public use and trail plans. Develop the project budget, manage project costs and coordinate Authority land management and master plan updates as required.
2. Coordinate and engage Authority staff working groups, community advisory committees, elected officials, municipal partners, other agencies, special interest groups and the public in planning for Authority lands through public meetings, newsletters and workshops.  Develop and maintain effective partnerships and communications with these groups.
3. Coordinate special studies, impact assessments and detailed site planning projects with Authority staff and consultants for the development of management and master plans or to resolve public use and land management issues.  Liaise with Authority staff on the implementation of recommendations.
4. Coordinate the Authority land management program, and manage a database of information for TRCA lands.
5. Lead the implementation of assigned land management program directions of the TRCA Land Management Strategy. Assist with seeking and developing partnerships in achieving TRCA land management objectives.
6. Identify property edge management issues and coordinate edge dispute resolutions.
7. Assist in the development of Authority policy, procedures and guidelines for land management and public use of Authority lands.
8. Coordinate the review and development of management and trail agreements with TRCA municipal partners, elected officials and public interest groups.
9. Monitor for compliance of trail and land management agreements, and resolve issues of non-compliance.
10. Prepare reports and provide technical support related to public use and land management issues for State of the Watershed Reports and Watershed Plan updates.
11. Investigate and prepare proposals for non-traditional funding from multiple sources.
12. Prepare and deliver presentations, communications, terms of reference and reports to senior staff, the Authority and its Boards, other member municipalities and the public.  Represent the Authority at meetings and on committees.
13. Supervise and evaluate the performance of contract staff and volunteers as required.
14. Other related duties as assigned.
