Working closely with local partners, the Asia Pacific Programme currently includes a broad range of species and landscape targeted conservation initiatives in Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Laos and Myanmar, and has country programme offices in Phnom Penh, Nanning, Jakarta, Manila and Hanoi and a regional office in Singapore.  Around 70 projects are being implemented in the region by a team of approximately 200 staff, consultants, volunteers and partner organisations with an annual regional budget of approximately USD 9 million. 

FFI has worked in Cambodia for over 10 years and has assisted in the creation of effective protected areas in the South west Cardamom Mountains.  More recently, FFI has extended the scope of its conservation work in Cambodia to include coastal areas.

FFI’s Coastal and Marine Conservation Project has been supporting the Fisheries Administration (FiA) of the Royal Government of Cambodia through a programme of capacity building.  FiA has specifically requested technical and financial support in their efforts to establish Cambodia’s first large-scale multiple-use Marine Protected Area (MPA), known locally as a Marine Fisheries Management Area (MFMA).  FFI has secured funding from the Darwin Initiative and Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in order to achieve this.

The purpose of the project is to put the necessary capacity in place to establish the first model MFMA for Cambodia in the Koh Rong Archipelago. FFI will reinforce growing local capacity through sharing lessons and building links to the wider regional MPA community to develop a supportive network, which will extend beyond the project duration. FFI also aims to trial options for diversifying funding streams to the Koh Rong Archipelago MFMA, in collaboration with public and private sector stakeholders. The overall goal of the work is to see Cambodia’s marine resources conserved effectively and sustainable, diversified coastal livelihoods supported. While the current focus is the Koh Rong Archipelago, FFI is keen to expand support and partnerships with the government and other stakeholders in order to catalyse the development of a representative and effective MPA network in Cambodia.

FFI is seeking an experienced Project Manager (PM) to oversee the effective delivery of project outputs. This position presents a unique opportunity to work with, and develop the capacity of, the government and local coastal communities of Cambodia whilst improving the conservation of the country’s marine biodiversity. You will be responsible for overall leadership and project coordination, including liaison with partner organisations to ensure both project efficacy and legacy beyond the current funding. You will have an advanced degree in marine science, or equivalent experience, and a minimum three years’ experience working on conservation projects in the field.  A dynamic team player, excellent communicator and leader, you will have a strong background in conservation education, ecological research and project management (preferably in a marine conservation context).
