Description

Sasol is a South African based global leader in the manufacture of synthetic fuels and chemicals through state-of-the-art proprietary technology. With 50 years experience in world-scale Coal-to-Liquids (CTL) projects they are presently at the concept stage in the development of a US$8-10 billion CTL Plant in China. Further similarly valued CTL projects in India and the United States are at the planning stage.

CO2 is a major by-product of CTL Plants and its neutralisation is a key requirement for their clean development. Sasol's challenge is to dispose of 800MMSCFD over a 30 year period. They seek to recruit a Project Manager who can drive their CO2 Storage Project in China.

You will be responsible for all stages of the project development, from feasibility studies through to front-end and detailed engineering. Specifically, you will have overall accountability for project definition, planning, costs, contracts and delivery. Options will include geological storage and also the use of CO2 as gas injection for enhanced oil and gas recovery (EOR) in depleted fields. This project is likely to cost as much again as the CTL Plant and the project duration is anticipated to be up to 10 years.

Suitable candidates are likely to have upstream oil and gas backgrounds as there is a strong requirement to appreciate subsurface matters and integrate the expertise within Sasol with various G&G, Drilling and Engineering consultancies. You will be an Engineering graduate with qualifications in, either Chemical, Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering. You must have substantial experience in the delivery of engineering and capital projects within the upstream oil and gas industry.

It is also essential that you are prepared to live and work in South Africa at the outset, before following the project for construction in China.
